As an occasional logged in visitor here the above facility seems to have stopped working recently. Is it me or is it THEM?

It's possibly cookie related. Clear them out or just delete theoptom.com one, see what happens.

I have stopped bothering trying to make sense of vagaries of this, with conflicting notifications.

Maybe this is due to my wiping all daily cache trackings including being ruthless with cookies, but that cannot account for all.

Are you getting a 'no posts' report ?
ie as if the system is perpetually marking all posts as read ?
ie as if you have not exited theOptom ?

I have not infrequently triggered this nil report while browsing and returning (before exiting) even when I know there are quite a few posts running that I haven't read. Loggin out re-sets this (I think).
