Recent outage - we were under attack

Post by theOptom »

From an IP address in China apparently.

Probably an attempt to steal our secret to predicting election results, or maybe they just confused us with a nuclear reactor.

All sounds very exciting and like we should all be forming a big line to repel our borders and fight back the (insert favourite villains here; Orthoptists, Russians, Wight Walkers etc)

Hugely pleased the PLPC stats weren't wiped for a 2nd year :D

The site went down approx 24 hours ago. Host investigated and found a server security module was triggered (probably due to some attempted hack) hence the security programme stopped traffic to the site. Backup from 18th June restored.

Seems to becoming a common occurrence. Should I be worried about keeping my phone in my trouser pocket?

I blame Dr Day. He's trying to reset the forum to its original look.

Maybe climate change?
Nights are drawin' in already......19.50hrs hereabouts, it's gloomy, already got a light on in the lounge.
So tell me, perhaps I should try Chris Packham, where's the swallows, swifts, martins this year? I noticed one, just one very high up overhead about 30 minutes back. No more to be seen for days. 2 years ago we had loads, including some nesting in the rafters of the carport & shitting all over the drive, on the car if we forgot, & then all crowding the wires in late September when it's time to go.
And, it's Glasto next weekend, monumental year... Trump, Kim & Boris unless he's blown it. Time for the return of Elvis & JFK maybe?

Has the host explained why data was lost if it was just traffic that was stopped?
I asked one of my patients to describe the symptoms...
