Full time lecturer (Optometrist) required

Post by Peter Black » Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:01 pm

UCLan are looking for an optometrist lecturer, registered with GOC at least 2 years, for the new blended learning Integrated Masters (MSci) in Optometry / BSc Hons Ophthalmic Dispensing based at the School of Medicine, University of Central Lancashire, Preston Campus.
https://recruitment.uclan.ac.uk/itrentl ... 7461800Yms
Select "Academic" then "search" it should be top of the list.

This is a fantastic opportunity to change the way optometry is taught in the UK.

Informal enquiries (and enquires from potential students including DOs wishing to convert to optometry) to eyehealthcare@uclan.ac.uk. CVs will not be accepted via this route, applications must be online to be considered and all "essential" items on the job description / person specification must be fulfilled.

Isn’t it strange that the salary is very poor for such a fantastic position 😂😂 is this per day worked?
If it’s per year then it’s the same as nursing, less than chiropractic and data insight manager
No wonder university’s don’t seem to be able to a high Calibre of candidates .
IMHO if you want experienced quality individuals to shape the profession then this would need to be doubled at the very least
Good luck with your search .

You're right but as with most institutions, the pay grade is is the same for all professions/subjects ignoring the current market pay rate for any given profession - in short they don't understand the concept of supply and demand

A student i help supervise has just been offered a FT position at 36k when she completes her pre-reg in a few weeks but she would rather locum as she can earn that for working 3 days a week . These guys are looking for otoms at the top of their game, but paying money that even newly qualified optoms are turning down.

"The successful candidate will have ... experience of commercial CPD/CET delivery. "

That is just a joke. When i do CET talks, i charge more per hour than what these guys are paying for a day.

I’m surprised Doug hasn’t offered you the perfect zombie

Whilst this isn’t supportive , the truth is theses courses are initiated and aided with the sole aim to flood the workforce, reduce salaries and ultimately put more green stores on every secondary and tertiary location.
