How did so many purported forum users congregate without leaving visible posts on accesible forums?

Much of traffic on websites are bots, probing attacks and ISP/search engine indexers. Sometimes updates/modifications are required in the background to fend off such attacks, spambots etc.

A sign of the times, I suppose.
