I think it would be really useful if I could gleam some sort of idea of each indiviual contributor's relevance, gualification and experience to post views on each subject.

I am still horrified that expereinced practitioners should ask such naive questions, but I may forgive them if they are not qualified in this particular field. If they are still not yet a secondary school, I will understand why spelling, punctuation and grammar are so poor.

Do we have any secondary schools posting on the board yet?

This isn't intended to be a formal meeting place, more a relaxed place to compare notes and chat. I've learnt a lot from this website and I think the very fact that people take the trouble to access this forum in the first place gives them 'relevance' as they are obviously dedicated to their industry. I know plenty of very learned Optoms and Opticians who would say "I'm not wasting my time on a website I don't want to think about optics when I get home". Fair play to them, it's their own decision to make, and if you would prefer a more formal forum you could try another. Why keep looking up the website if you get nothing out of it?

I think that the anonymity of the site is a good thing. It can encourage people to ask the questions that otherwise they may feel embarrassed to, and fill in gaps in their knowledge which may otherwise have gone unchecked.

There are plenty of forums out there whose users WILL lambaste you for not knowing the simplest of things. If that's your bag then feel free to use them.

ya why should i ahve to justify my qualification to anyone here,as far as i was aware this site is for discussion of optometry ond optics and not of who's got what letters,it's just that kind of attitude that will put people off posting so called "niave" questions that other people will benifit from. I dont know what college SDOPTOM went to or do i want to know but i know i didnt learn everything i know from text books it is from, trying htings and asking questions and not being afraid to take other people's experience on board,i think that is is the way forward in optics and not the belitteling aproach of OPTOM V's DO/OA ect.
